Hello People of the Internets! Welcome to my teaching blog about non-other than…TEACHING THINGS! I know there are, like, a BILLION out there, buuuuuuuttttttt….
I am Erika Boles, and your life is about to change… maybe. I’m not sure, but you should just stick around anyway. Before we get in to all the good stuff about myself let me tell you why I’ve finally decided to do this.
First of all, I love to write. I also really like to tell stories. This will allow me to do BOTH at the same time! I enjoy my job far too much as well as hate it immensely at times (don’t we all?). As well as love sharing ideas and listening to others. This will be a great medium for not only myself to say some words that mean some things, but also allow me to listen and be a little more mindful of my friends and other fellow humans. Not all the topics I’m going to discuss are going to be silly either. There are parts to everyone’s life and jobs that make things a little or a lot more stressful, and it’s worth talking about.
Okay…back to moi. As you’ve certainly noticed I’m slightly odd, strange, funny, sarcastic…*fill in blank*. I love to be silly and laugh. Laughing is my number one favorite thing to do. Some other things I superbly enjoy are singing, dancing, theater (I knoooowwww! Nerd!), anime (even more nerdy), reading, and a plethora of other things. But over all of these listed items, teaching and being an educator is number one.
Now, a little history. I was born and raised in Spokane, Washington. No, it’s not near Seattle (5 hour drive and on the OTHER side of the state). Closer to the border of Idaho actually. I went to a 4 year university, Eastern Washington University, and graduated in 5 with my bachelors in Elementary Education with and Emphasis in Reading. Right after graduating I did a little of the preschool thing and then finally decided to start subbing as there were no jobs available and finished up a long-term sub job that turned awry. I reached out to a friend who’d moved far, far away (Phoenix). She mentioned a job opportunity and I was hired within weeks. Before I knew it I was on my was to AZ. After a year and some of teaching under my belt I finally went back to school at Grand Canyon University to receive my Masters of Arts in Reading to become a reading specialist (some day). I still enjoy and love the classroom teacher vibe and will for quite some time. Now, 4 years later I’m here and writing my first blog.
Overall, you really just need to know, that I love my job, I wanna talk about it, share about it and hear about it HERE. Thanks for reading and keep an eye out for my next post!
*Also, I’m not really bossy…or at least I don’t think so. But just in case, make sure to read another post, or five.
